Draft legislation toregulateTurkey’s temporary latıorer system, added to Parliament’s agenda in the wake of a mining catastrophe in the Soma district of Manisa provinee that claimed 301 lives on May 13. falls short of meeting the demands of workers and the union as they had asked for the system to be done away with altogether, said Turkey Cooperatives, Commerce and Office Workers’ Union (KOOP-İŞ) President Eyüp Alemdar. Speaking to the Cihan Nevvs Agency on Sunda}’, Alemdar stressed that rather than end the subcontracting system, the draft lavv is intended to widen its scope. “Therefore, it is not possible for our union to accepıt this draft.” said Alemdar Alemdar also said that KOOP-İŞ will increase its efforts to put pressure on Parliament not to pass the law on the subcontracting system in its current form.
